The Documentary & Book
States of Mind.
58 marathons. 58 days. 2,447 kilometres.
One question: how far can you really go?
A documentary and memoir by Lachlan Stuart.

The Documentary
This is not a highlight reel.
States of Mind follows Lachlan Stuart across 58 consecutive marathons through 50 US states in the dead of winter, then every Australian state and territory.
It captures the moments the cameras were never supposed to see. The injury on Day 5 that nearly ended everything. The midnight run in Hawaii after 50 straight days. The phone call where his wife told him the IVF transfer did not work. The silence between teammates when words stopped helping.
Directed by Ben Turner, this film goes beyond the finish line to explore what happens to a man, a marriage, and a mission when the only way forward is through.

Life Is an Adventure of Becoming
"What am I really capable of?"
That was the question I couldn't put down. I'd spent years helping other men find the next version. Meanwhile I was in Nashville, coasting. Amy wasn't. She was building. Watching her chase her thing made me realise I'd stopped chasing mine. I needed a mountain of my own.
What came out of that was 58 marathons in 58 days. All 50 US states, 8 Australian states and territories, done through the American winter. A test of distance turned into a battle for survival.
The physical part wasn't the hardest thing. The hardest thing was the voice in my own head telling me I was a fraud, and finding a way to keep running anyway.
Somewhere between the frost and the fatigue, one thing landed: pain doesn't change when you fight it. It changes when you stop giving it the wrong meaning.
"Every mile stripped something away from him, until all that was left was to choose exactly who he wanted to be."
